Choosing The Best Tonneau Cover For Work And Recreation

When you need to guard the contents in your truck bed but don’t want a camper shell, consider a Tonneau cover. These lids lie flat against the ridge of the bed to protect your belongings without changing the profile of your vehicle.

There are two types of Tonneau covers: soft and hard. Depending on your access and security needs, either can shelter your property.

Roll Up:

Soft roll-up caps are the cheapest and lightest option and could work well for the recreational user. They are opened by rolling the panel from the gate to the cab window. Some have fastening straps so they can be partially open while you’re driving, perfect when you are hauling tall loads.
Roll up hard tops are made of heavy-duty aluminum panels that are enclosed in vinyl. They still look and work like fabric ones, but they offer more protection from intruders.

Fold Up:

A fold-up soft cover is made of vinyl stretched over metal sections. You open it by folding the piecesover each other.

A hard fold upis similar in design. However, it can support an even load on top of it, making it multi-functional for work projects.

Hinged:

Both the soft and hard hinged topper attaches to the truck near the cab and lifts up at the gate. The hard top is made of fiberglass and is the most secure. It could work well for storing equipment.
